6 September 2016 marked the 51st anniversary of the official start of the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965, which lasted for 17 days and resulted in thousands of casualties on both sides. Defence Day is a public holiday that is celebrated as national day to commemorate in the memory of Pakistan's successful defence against India that marked the ceasefire in the 1965 war on 6 September.
